As stressful and taxing as a bed bug infestation can be, success depends on your active participation in the process. The exterminator can only do so much; it is also up to you to follow instructions and be diligent about scheduling follow-up appointments to rid your home of bed bugs.
You are not required to report bed bug infestations to health departments or government agencies, but you may want to consider doing so that your community can be more aware of how widespread, or not, bed bugs are. You can also submit your infestation to an online resource that collects such information.
