How to Kill Bed Bugs

Other bed bug hiding places

These insects are not limited to the bed area, though, and can hide virtually anywhere. Bed bugs are less likely to be in places that are far from where people sit or sleep. They hang out in bathrooms and kitchens far less than bedrooms and living rooms. They’re also more attracted to wood and fabric, as opposed to plastic and metal.

  • Sofas
  • Nightstands
  • Dressers and closets, among clothes
  • The edges of rugs or wall-to-wall carpet
  • Cracks in wood moldings and baseboards
  • Cracks in plaster and partitions
  • Ceiling-wall junctures
  • Behind wall mounts
  • Behind picture frames
  • Switch plates and outlets
  • Loose wallpaper
  • Inside clocks, phones, TVs, and other entertainment electronics
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Smoke detectors
  • Window and door casings
  • Wall voids
  • Utility lines
  • Heating ducts
  • Elevator shafts
  • Laundry and mail chutes
  • Tiny wood holes
  • Clutter

But really, no place is safe from a bed bug. This only adds to the terrifying prospect of a bed bug infestation.
